![]() The College of Agriculture,Raichur is situated in the North-Eastern dry zone (Zone-2) of Karnataka located between 16 ° 15 ´ N latitude and 77 ° 20´ E longitude at an elevation of 389 meters above mean sea level. The average rainfall at Raichur is 621.33 mm. The monthly mean maximum and minimum temperature of 38.0 °C and 16.2 °C are recorded in the month of April and December, respectively. The mean relative humidity varies between 52.96 per cent in April and 83.86 per cent in August. The college was established in the farm of Agricultural Research Station, which was started during 1932 by the then Nizam Government, Hyderabad with a mandate to carry out research work on dry land agriculture. With the establishment of State Agriculture University in Karnataka in 1964, the research station was elevated to Regional Agricultural Research Station with a jurisdiction of five districts of North Karnataka. The Agriculture College at Raichur was started in 1984 with an intake capacity of 30 students per year with its functioning in the premises of Regional Agriculture Research Station and Agriculture Engineering Institute and thereafter shifted to new Agriculture College building in 1989. The intake capacity has been increased in a phased manner to 70 students at undergraduate level. The Post-graduate programme leading to Master´s degree in six departments was started in 1995 and two departments in 2008 with an intake capacity of 5 students for each department every year. |
